Give Pro Choice MPs your thanks!

We did it. At 10:30 on Friday night 10 October 2008 the Abortion Law Reform Bill 2008 became law. The bill made it through both houses of Parliament without amended, and was passed convincingly in a vote of 23 in favour, and 17 opposed.

Now, for the first time in Victoria, women facing a problem pregnancy up to 24 weeks gestation have a right to decide for themselves. If a woman asks for advice from a medical practitioner with a conscientious objection to abortion, he must now provide her with an effective referral to a doctor who can help.

Bipartisanship was required for this bill to succeed and we had it in spades. Politicians of all stripes - Greens, Nationals, Labor and Liberals - voted in favour of the bill.

We won because the pro choice majority acted like one. We made our voices heard, ensuring a constant stream of correspondence to MPs.

Below is the list of upper and lower house members who voted in favour of  abortion law reform.

If your members voted for choice, please take the time to thank them.
